Sara Van Buskirk is a singer songwriter from Houston, Texas whose work is known for raw, commanding vocals, emotional depth, and vivid lived-in storytelling. Sara is a strikingly gifted songwriter and musician whose sound resonates with raw emotion, vivid storytelling, and haunting melodic textures. Hailing from Houston, Texas, SVB has carved out a distinctive space in the Americana and roots music scene—with melodies that linger and stick, earning praise like, “you won’t soon forget Sara Van Buskirk’s lyrics and melodies that call you back home.”

Rooted in the rich traditions of blues, gospel, and roots music, Sara’s early influences span a remarkable range—from Janis Joplin to Chopin. She grew up steeped in the sounds of Nina Simone, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and more. 

Over time, Sara has developed a sound that is timeless yet unmistakably her own—rich, emotional, and fearless. Whether performing solo, fronting the full band, or collaborating with other artists, her performances are intimate, commanding, and unforgettable.

Sara’s discography reflects a deep personal resonance while connecting with a wide audience. In 2010, they self-released The Place Where You Are, followed by the 2020 single Can We Be Friends?, released in the midst of the global pandemic. In December 2023, SVB joined The Tennessee Freedom Singers (featuring Allison Russell, Brittany Howard, Brandi Carlile, Emmylou Harris, Maren Morris, Amanda Shires, and more) to record Tennessee Rise at Nashville’s Sound Emporium in support of Gloria Johnson’s campaign—culminating in a live performance at City Winery Nashville in April 2024.

In 2024 Sara joined The Bayou City Comeback Chorus at Houston’s Wortham Center. In March 2024 she self-released two versions of the single Light Me Up, featuring members of Houston’s beloved Two Star Symphony—alongside a stunning companion visualizer.

In September 2025, SVB released the powerful single “JUST WON’T STOP”—an anthem of resilience and self-determination—accompanied by an official music video created in collaboration with acclaimed artist and activist Lynzy Lab. The release showcases SVB’s continued commitment to music as a force for storytelling, resistance, and emotional truth.

In 2023, Sara founded Georgia Park Studios, her own recording and creative space, where she is currently producing her second full-length album—expected to release upon funding. Sara was recently featured on Houston Life (KPRC–Channel 2, NBC), performing a track from the upcoming self-titled record and discussing its creation.

In December of 2025 Sara released Comfortable Lie - the first single off her upcoming album - accompanied by a full length music video. Comfortable Lie explores duality and keeping it together (or not) on the journey to becoming one's full, authentic self. Sara is also a sought-after collaborator, currently writing, recording, and touring with Kam Franklin (of The Suffers) on her debut solo album Land of The Neon Sun—produced by Margo Price and set for release some time in 2026. Sara also performs with Geoffrey’s Electric Banjo Band, the genre-blending project led by Houston musician Geoffrey Muller, which fuses bluegrass, Greek dimotika, and electronic elements into a truly original soundscape.

A two-time recipient of the SACI Grant (2022 & 2025) and a grantee of the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, Sara’s work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, and more. She is a voting member of The Recording Academy and actively participates in the Texas Chapter, engaging in artist-centered community events and advocacy.

A fierce advocate, Sara uses her platform to uplift and inspire, continuing to push the boundaries of Americana and roots music.
